We're comparing the Hero 11 against the Hero 8 we've used up until now, and we're not going back.
Even though the temperature was around 10 degrees at the weekend, the Hero 11 lasted much longer than the Hero 8, which leads to less chance of getting moisture into the camera when changing the battery in the field. A huge advantage of the Hero 11 is that you can use the same battery as the Hero 10 and 9. What we are looking forward to testing is how long it lasts in sub-zero temperatures where the Hero 8 has really disappointed.
«Horizon leveling» er noe vi virkelig er fornøyd med. Denne modusen gjør at kameraet hele tiden filmer vannrett noe som er fordelaktig når man benytter hodestroppen. I tillegg kan man plassere kameraet i ulendt terreng men fortsatt filme stabilt.
By being able to film in 10-bit color depth compared to 8-bit in the Hero 8, you have greater adjustment possibilities for colourgrading when the films are to be edited. This helps to make it easier to get the same colors in films where you use video from both the Hero 11 and larger camcorders such as our Sony RX10 IV.
Something we notice about the camera is that even if it is really pouring down from the sky, the lens stays relatively free of water, which leads to less disturbance in the image quality. This is something we have been troubled by when using the Hero 8. Whether this is because the camera is brand new or whether the lens actually holds up better, we are unsure, but we will have to test that later.
The selfie screen is simply brilliant when you have to film yourself and when you set up the camera in front of you.
The microphone sounds much better than the Hero 8 and using the wind noise canceling setting the sound quality on the Hero 11 is impressive.
The conclusion is that if you are looking for a user-friendly and good camera that is easy to take with you, the Hero 11 really does the job. The only thing you lose is of course the ability to zoom, which action cameras are very bad at.
